Our Environmental Performance - Working with EarthCheck towards sustainability in tourism
The environmental practices of United Vehicle Rentals have been recognized by EarthCheck, http://www.earthcheck.org, widely regarded as the world’s most scientifically rigorous Environmental Management Programme and designed specifically for the travel and tourism industry. It looks at key environmental indicators such as energy and water consumption, total waste production, and community commitment to determine an operator’s standard of performance.
United Vehicle Rentals has always recognised its responsibility to minimise the impact its United Campervans and Alpha Campervans fleets of over 600 vehicles has on the environment, and encourages its clients to share in that responsibility. It's no surprise then that in 2004 United led the way to become the first rental operator in the world to achieve EarthCheck Benched Certification.
Since that world first we have successfully benchmarked and certified our operations annually, submitting each year’s operational data to EarthCheck for scrutiny, followed by an Offsite Certification Assessment conducted by an independent third party Auditor.
In 2009 this resulted in our being awarded the prestigious EarthCheck Silver level of certification, and in 2011 EarthCheck Gold certification, both achievements providing us with independent confirmation that we operate according to the highest of international standards, and helping to ensure our systems and the technologies we use are in keeping with the latest advances in climate change science and measurement greenhouse gas emissions (GHG).
